Renu

2015-2016

Eid ul Adha is very special this year for Renu who is able to see the celebrations in 23 years. Renu, who is now 29 years old, lost her vision at the age of 6 due to measles infection that left her legally blind in both eyes. The infection initially started as a conjunctivitis. She could not get properly treatment due to poverty. Her condition prevented her from going to school and as she grew older she became dependent on her older brother and his family. She was seen at the HatchHope free mobile clinic in July of 2013. It took our organization 2 years to collect the funds needed for her operation. Earlier this month we were able to pay for the operation for one of her eyes which included management costs of post operative care and medications. Renu is able to see the world now and for the first time in 23 years see her family. Once her recovery is complete, we will try to fund the operation needed for her other eye. It is our goal to provide basic education to Renu so that she can at least have a primary level education. We would also provide her resources that she can use to establish a steady income and become independent. The future is looking brighter for Renu thanks to Dr. Nahar for her dedicated work and all our patrons for hatching hope and giving Renu a new life. We, the HatchHope Family, extend our thanks from the bottom of our hearts!

Update on Renu:

Renu is our 29 years old patient who had lost her vision at the age of 6 due to viral conjunctivitis which left her legally blind in both eyes. Due to poverty, she could not get treatment. She was completely dependent on her brother and his family for 20 + years before she was seen at the HatchHope free mobile clinic in July of 2013. It took our organization 2 years to collect the funds needed for her operation. In September of 2015, she had her left eye operated. HatchHope was able to pay for her costs of post operative care and medications. Renu was able to see the world for the first time in 23 years in shades and see the shaded figures of her family. A month ago, HatchHope helped pay for the post operative cost for her right eye corneaplasty. She is now able to see figures from her right eye and shaded figures from her left eye. We will give 6 months for her vision to slowly accommodate to the new changes and hopefully see a smile on her face when we share her progress ?
