In October of 2023, Mahran Hossain, 33 years old, was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) stage 4B, a very rare and aggressive cancer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he had lost both his parents to the virus, leaving him and his brother to support themselves. After 5 cycles of chemotherapy, HatchHope was able to raise enough money to pay for an autologous STEM cell transplantation in Dhaka.

Living in Chandpur, Chittagong, Jannatul Ferdaus is HatchHope’s newest scholarship recipient. The daughter of a painter and a homemaker, her ability to attend school is dependent on her father’s work. However, due to a medical condition, her father is only able to work intermittently. She attends the Hatila government primary school, and is an above average student in her 5th grade class. Thanks to the generosity of HatchHope’s donors, we were able to provide her with a scholarship of $350 for the year, allowing her to continue her studies.

Today is St. Patrick’s day. For many of us who live in the U.S. we celebrate it the color of green. We wear green, have green drinks, eat green colored food, wear green jewelry, have parades etc. There is unfortunately a dark history behind the green color. There was a great potato famine in 1840’s which forced many of the Irish free mass starvation in their home country in search of better future in other countries including the U.S.A. The people who stayed back were so deprived of food that they ate grass. According to the Irish folk stories people’s mouths were green as they died. At least 1 million in the 6 years of famine. Today as we celebrate the love and happiness, let us remember the Irish of this century. A similar story resonates among the people in the horn of Africa. Good news is that we all can help and it will not cost us any money! Please go to the following link and click on “donate free rice.” It is a game that you play. It is through World Food Programme in collaboration with the United Nations. For each answer you get right rice is donated on your behalf. Have fun paying ! Please visit the following link and scroll down to start donating rice for free..

Stand and listen from a place where we are able to see noises, hear colors, and taste our feelings
Arrow your focus so that words spoken and results read have not been quivers of a fools marksmen
But never cement your thoughts from not hearing and considering all things possible
-Never refrain from allowing your hope to hatch
